Social Media – The Good, The Bad and the 'Not-So-Private'

I have noticed that a lot of people who has social networking websites tend to not put a privacy settings, and allow strangers to check their profiles...that is super creepy...I became a part of the social networking because my friends begged me to, and also it was an easier way for
me to communicate with them whenever we had projects to do together. I never post any of my pictures on the internet because I am aware of the dangers on the internet. However, I did set my accounts to privacy settings, so that my friends and family can only see it. The kind of information I allow others to have access to is really...nothing but my profile because it does have some information of where I go to school. Anyways, I just want to give some helpful tips for people to post something safe, which are:
  • If you must post a picture online, post one that doesn't have anything that would identify your where you live. And no inappropriate pictures.
  • If someone wants to take inappropriate pictures/webcam shots of you, refuse it and immediately call an adult.
However there are a bunch of things that are unsafe things to post online which are:

  • Personnel information about yourself e.g. your birthdate, real name, where go to school and e.t.c.
  • Change your privacy settings from public's eye to friends/certain friends'
'
A lot of kids are quite irresponsible users of social networking because our parents has no authority over this. Since they are quite clueless to technology. It is important that we learn how to be safe on the internet since we could easily get hurt online, which is pretty upsetting.  In my opinion here are some helpful tips on becoming more responsible on the internet :

  • Be smart! Tell yourself that posting personnel things online is no good because there maybe someone stalking you.
  • If friends pressure you into something you know if it is not right then do not do it! Otherwise, if authorities found out you were involved in it then you will be in big trouble for the rest of your LIFE!!!!!

Hey! You Can't Wear That!

This is Mic...Oh my bad it is Present Bif from Back to the Future

Michael Jeffries the CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch, says that only cool kids who are skinny and has the looks can only wear his clothes. Honestly, though something wrong with Michael Jeffries. I mean he honestly looks ugly himself, and he is stating that good looking people should only wear his clothes... I honestly, feel that Michael thinks that
This is Michael Jeffries...I know right telling us
what beauty is, please
it is the end of the world if somebody who is different tries one of his products.
However, I do admire his honesty and guts. I mean think about it, there are ugly people around the world, like him. Who can not shop at his own store. LOL! I honestly think is not fair of what he did to target a certain group of teens since being a teenager is a really hard stage in life. Why? Well because teenagers go through a lot of changes thorough their bodies and souls, which is kind of hard to deal with. Since it is the time where teens start to develop feelings for each other, and we are scared to ask them out since we feel 'ugly.' After receiving tons of advertisements target us by telling teenagers that we are all ugly, and you need to try our product in order to be cool. However, if you are not one of us then you should become like us otherwise you would be a loser for the rest of your life. That is really stupid since it is all ready bad enough that we are dealing with the fact our bodies and minds are changing, but the way that society looks at us? It just pisses me off because everyday I see these ads everywhere telling me that I am not beautiful, so to be beautiful you gotta try our products. These ads are affecting teen's thoughts and opinions of what beauty is really is like. Since these companies' ads throw at us with these 'perfect bodies,' and telling us to become these perfect bodies. When reality those bodies are not so healthy, and not even close to having a 'perfect body.' Honestly, though there is no such thing as a perfect body you are already beautiful in your own special way.

On a Tweet and a Prayer...

As a kid, I honestly think that some youths will become attracted to the Church having twitter accounts is because well simply, who ever expects the pope to have a twitter account. Also it would be easier for the Pope to communicate with the youths and send the message of God to them since children these are into
communications and social media. However, other youths will not be attracted to the pope having twitter accounts since well, our generation is not really into religious beliefs and morals, anymore. Which is really sad. I have to admit that the Pope seems like a cool chilled guy who has changed the face of what it means to be Catholics. Honestly, though I think my parish should take part in the social media world because it will make a positive impact in the future of religion. Like tweet or post helpful quotes for people who are having a difficult time at home, school and etc. There are many ways for the Church to encourage our youth to get more involved with the Church by:
  • Holding community events that are fun for kids especially
  • Give students opportunities for volunteering hours; Like have students give and serve food to the homeless, help clean the environment, and etc.

Yes, these methods can help because I had many experiences that involves with the Church. Like I remember this one time I was probably 12 years old, and my friend and I went to the Church because they were having their yearly 'mini-retreat.' Where we would go to Mass, but have FUN AT THE SAME TIME!!! Since we got to have fun water balloon fights, had a huge potluck, and etc.

TwiTTeR TROUBLE

Months ago a group of Brampton students from a high school were suspended for inappropriate tweets against their teachers. The school board claims that these tweets are, 'characterized as malicious, explicitly sexual and violent in nature.' While the students says that it is a freedom of expression of their thoughts and opinion.

Khadijah Haghighi, 17, left, was one of five students suspended from a Brampton high school for comments about teachers on Twitter.
Honestly though this is quite an interesting case because both sides do have strong agreements. I mean think about it......The school board did have the right to take action since it is bullying others at school. However, these comments were not made at school, but at home, online where the public can see it. Also there were cases where the school board did not take action when actual bullying took place. Like for example when a kid gets punched in the face by their peers for beginning 'different.' The school board never takes action on these cases, instead they will just slap them on the hand, and just give them a simple warning. While on the other hand, taking action was a smart thing, but suspending them is not right since these comments were not made at school, during school hours.
So on onto the student's side, the student Khadijah did have a point, when she stated that it was a freedom of expression. Also these comments she made about her teacher, "he lives at home with his mom, eats fish sticks for dinner, and all he talks about is Star Wars.” Were not sexually not all!!!!!! GET YOUR FACTS HERE PEOPLE!!!!! Seriously, though? How are fish sticks sexually? And they got suspended for these comments? Although I was quite pleased how the school board took action because what these students were doing is bullying. However, instead of suspending these students from classes why not make them write an apology letters to their teacher. Since it would be a reasonable punishment for these students for these incidentsI understand how the students feel they should have the right to share their opinions freely. However, it should not be posted on social media websites like Twitter for everybody to see it. Since their tweets about their teachers is quite rude. Basically bullying these teachers, which is totally wrong.

Paparazzi : Scandalous?

Honestly though, I disagree with the way celebrities are being treated by paparazzi because it seems to me that paparazzi treat celebrities with disrespect. As in they don't acknowledge that celebrities need some privacy from their famous lives, especially when they are taking pictures of celebrities' children. I honestly think that its going a bit too far since  celebrities are trying to fight back for some privatize for themselves, and their loved ones, which has caused some celebrities to go to jail for it, and the paparazzi too. Paparazzi would use media networks to their advantages to post personal news about famous people because its easier to post news about famous people rather than putting it on paper since it is a longer process. In my opinion, I think posting personal news about famous people isn't right because what if those famous people wanted to keep it a secret to themselves since it may be embarrassing to talk about.  Just this January 2013, paparazzi, Chris Guerra thought Justin Bieber was driving his Ferrari, and after taking a picture of a Ferrari he thought Bieber was sitting in. The singer
This is Bieber's Ferrari, that paparazzi
Chris Guerra was following, and tried
to take a picture of.
wasn't even in the vehicle, but an SUV struck the paparazzi as he walked across a busy Los Angeles street to return to his vehicle. In my opinion, I disagree with the way paparazzi treats celebrities since they act as if these celebrities aren't people, and so they need to learn how to back off people's personnel lives. Although I have to admit that it is their job to do these kind of stupid acts, but they need to try to control their behavior around celebrities and their surroundings. Otherwise, people especially themselves would get hurt or killed. If someone were to invade my privacy, like my laptop, cell phones or etc. I would definitely feel invaded because there are personnel things on them that I honestly don't want to share with anybody. Also its my belongs, and seriously though did I honestly give you the right to look through my personnel belongs. Like no.

iPhone Crazy....... or not?

Honestly, I am not the person wants or really needs the top of the line electronics because to be honest I don't really need a phone now like not yet.
I actually am pretty excited about the Apple's bank of material being released to the public over time since Steve Jobs is an amazing inventor of technology of the future. Also, in my opinion his work is very creative and spontaneous since its like advanced technology.
What I honestly think about how the iPhone might change in the following years to come, by further more exploring the advances that can be further made from technology. The other applications and/or functions that I would like to see into new versions like games. The Apple company can make brand new games. They can find ways for better quality of the iPhone. Lastly, find ways to make the iPhones much smaller than the other versions because they can't really fit in pockets, properly.
